Global Expansion enabled a timely deployment of MM’s entire Tarbela Dam outfit, without the need for any kind of back office. This meant that the team was able to focus solely on the feasibility and scoping studies, which were successfully completed within the projected time frame.
Additionally, no Permanent Establishment was created for Mott MacDonald, removing all risk of corporate tax liability.
The Challenge Mott Macdonalds faced
Hydropower supplies about one third of Pakistan’s electricity, and Tarbela Hydel Power Station, which boasts the world’s largest rock-filled dam, required an expansion to increase its generating capacity.
Mott Macdonald was awarded part of the tender to explore a possible extension, and needed to rapidly deploy a team of engineers from the UK to Pakistan to conduct feasibility and scoping studies. With no corporate entities or infrastructure in Pakistan, Mott MacDonald risked failing to complete their obligations in the required timeframe.
Global Expansion has a lengthy track record of supporting construction and engineering companies with rapid deployment of their workforce to overseas locations for one-off projects.
Excellent onboarding speed and the availability of an existing, fully compliant corporate entity including expert support staff at the project location quickly convinced Mott MacDonal that Global Expansion was the right choice of partner.
Following the partnership with Global Expansion, all engineers weredeployed on time and to schedule without creating a Permanent Establishment for Mott MacDonald resulting in no corporate tax liability. The 5th extension project increased the plant’s total generating capacity to 6300MW
